Vyborg Shipyard Celebrates Another Milestone

Vyborg Shipyard JSC, that is carrying out works on construction of three 16 MW diesel-powered sea-going icebreakers of project 21900 M for the Federal Agency of Marine and River Transport Rosmorport, yesterday laid the first section for the lead vessel of the project.

The ceremony of placing the section on to the shipyard’s new semi-submersible barge “Атлант”, which is intended for hull assembly of icebreakers and other vessels with wide beam, was witnessed by the representatives of the Federal Agency of Maritime and River Transport, “Rosmorport”, the leaders of shipbuilding and ship repair companies in the country.

Icebreaker project 21900М is a two-decker of unrestricted navigation with two full-revolving rudder propellers and bow thruster. Displacement about 10.000 t. Length 116 m, width 26,5 m. Icebreaking capability up to 1.5 m.

Purpose of the Vessel: independent ice escorting of heavy-tonnage vessels; towage, fire fighting on floaters and other facilities; salvage and assistance to distressed vessels; transportation of cargos.

According to schedule three Icebreakers shall be delivered to the Customer within the period from May till October 2015.
