Qingshan Shipyard Pens Ultramax BCs

CSC Qingshan Shipyard and Atlantska Plovidba d.d. have signed contracts for the construction of two 63,800 DWT bulk carriers, including an option for a third.

These contracts will replace the old ones for 38,000 DWT vessels, which were placed back in April 2013, reported Atlantska plovidba on its site.

The decision to order Ultramax vessels instead of the handysize Green Dolphin’s, which were originally contracted with the yard, was sparked by the rising demand for 61,000-64,000 DWT class ships.

According to the Croatian shipper, the company has three months to exercise the option for the third ship. All contracts, prior to becoming effective, will be subjected to the approval of the company’s board of directors (BOD).
