A fire broke out on board MOL’s containership, MOL Contribution, on Sunday evening, while the ship was berthed in the Port of Oakland, California.

The two-alarm blaze in the superstructure broke out just before 6 p.m. and was showing heavy smoke conditions, according to the Oakland fire departments’ official Twitter account.

The fire was reported mid-ship, inside an officer’s cabin and on the sixth deck, Oakland firefighters said in a tweet.

It took around 40 minutes for the Oakland firefighters to contain the fire with the help of the cargo ship’s crew.

The 2014-built containership is manned by 15 crew members. There were no injuries reported.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
