Wintershall Gets Approval for Drilling in Norwegian North Sea

Petroleum Safety Authority Norway has given consent to Wintershall Norway ASA for exploration drilling in the North Sea with the semi submersible rig Songa Delta.  The consent applies to drilling of exploration well 35/9-7 as part of PL 418 with Wintershall Norway ASA as operator.

The well is located approx. 139 km from Flesland airport and water depth at the site is 377 m.  The drilling is expected to last approximately 48 to 60 days, depending on whether the discovery is made.

The semi-submersible drilling rig Songa Delta is owned by Songa Offshore and operated by Odfjell Drilling. Songa Delta is an “Ocean Ranger” design column stabilized, semi-submersible drilling unit, capable of operating in water depths up to 2,300 feet.
