OMV Petrom Hires GSP Prometeu Jack-up for Drilling Offshore Romania

Romanian drilling contractor, GSP Offshore, has secured a contract for its jack-up rig GSP Prometeu for work in the Romanian Black Sea.

The contract awards comes from OMV-Petrom. Under the contract, the rig, built in 1984 and refurbished in 2003, will provide offshore light workover, support for well services and accommodation services.

The expiration date for the contract is October this year. GSP Offshore did not disclose the value of the contract.

OMV-Petrom in partnership with ExxonMobil, in February announced a significant gas discovery in the Neptun Block, 170 kilometers offshore Romania in water approximately 930 meters deep. Petrom is the only oil producer in Romania and supplies around half of the internal gas production. It has estimated oil and gas reserves of 1 billion boe.
