TAQA Evacuates 92 Workers from North Sea Platform

Taqa Bratani yesterday evacuated non-essential crew from its North Cormorant platform in the UK North Sea, after a gas leak alarm went off.

The company has informed that 92 non-essential personnel were moved to the nearby offshore installations. A total of  202 personnel were on board at the time and all are safe and well. One hundred and ten (110) workers remain on the platform. Immediately after the incident, which occurred at 5:15am, Sunday, the platform was shut down and depressurised.

“The platform’s well operations have been made safe and the situation is under control. An investigation will be undertaken to establish the cause of the incident,” said TAQA in a statement.

The North Cormorant platform is owned and operated by TAQA Bratani Ltd and is located approximately 109 miles north-east of Lerwick in the Shetlands, 310 miles north-east of Aberdeen.
