‘Sevan Louisiana’ stops operation due to BOP leak

Norwegian drilling contractor Sevan Drilling has reported a leakage on one of its offshore drilling rigs.

The company has said that its Sevan Louisiana rig, currently on a contract in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, has temporarily halted operations due to a control system leak on the BOP.

In order to repair the leak, it was necessary to temporarily suspend the well in a safe manner and recover the upper section of the BOP to the surface, Sevan Drilling said in a statement.

The incident occurred at the beginning of August and will result in downtime of more than 25 days in the third quarter.

The Sevan Louisiana is an ultra deep water rig (UDW), built in 2013 at the Cosco shipyard in Nantong, China. The self-propelled rig, equipped with eight thrusters, can accommodate up to 150 crew members.

The Sevan Louisiana is contracted with LLOG in the US Gulf of Mexico for a firm period of 1,095 days and the total revenue potential for the primary contract term is approximately USD 585.5 million inclusive of the mobilization fee.
