B.C. Minister de Jong to discuss PNW LNG project with Petronas

British Columbia’s finance minister Michael de Jong set off on a business trip to India and Malaysia in a push to advance economic relations.

De Jong will meet with Petronas representatives in Malaysia to discuss the progress of the Pacific NorthWest LNG project, B.C. government revealed in a statement on Tuesday.

He will additionally look into the next steps needed to develop the natural gas liquefaction and export facility on Lelu Island near Prince Rupert.

It was recently reported that Petronas could abandon the $11.4 billion LNG project due to the newly proposed climate-change priorities revealed by the new prime minister Justin Trudeau.

However, the company issued a response saying it is moving towards the financial investment decision on the project that would initially have two LNG trains with a production capacity approximately 6 million tons per annum each. A third train would subsequently be developed with a similar production capacity.

Petronas, Sinopec, JAPEX, Indian Oil Corporation and PetroleumBRUNEI are all shareholders in Pacific NorthWest LNG and the associated natural gas supply.
