ESL Shipping and Sinotrans & CSC Shipbuilding Industry Corporation have agreed to assign building of ESL Shipping’s 25,600 dwt LNG-fueled bulk carriers to Sinotrans & CSC main yard, Jinling Shipyard, located in Nanjing, China.

The agreement aims to ensure the timely delivery of the two ice-class 1A ships, the first LNG-fueled large bulk carriers in the world, ESL Shipping said in a statement on Tuesday.

The two vessels are expected to start operating in the Baltic Sea during the first half of 2018, with the investment totaling €60 million.

The design and construction work is made together with the Finnish designer Deltamarin, as the vessels are based on Deltamarin’s B.Delta26LNG design.

Both ships will primarily be used to carry raw materials for steel and energy industries in the Gulf of Bothnia and Baltic Sea.
