Fluxys Says Belgium Gas Consumption Sets New Record

Natural gas consumption in Belgium Thursday set a new record of 1131 GWh, beating out the previous record set on 8 January 2010 by more than 5%, according to Fluxys.

It was also two thirds more than consumption last Thursday, an average weekday in winter.

This means that on 2 February the Fluxys grid transmitted about 15 times more energy than the Doel nuclear power station can generate in one day, Fluxys said in a statement.

Power stations and industrial companies connected directly to the Fluxys grid accounted for 35% of total consumption.

The public distribution system, which transmits gas to businesses and homes, accounted for 65% of total consumption.
