Australia Pacific LNG Awards Accommodation Contract to Hutchinson Builders

Australia Pacific LNG has awarded national construction company, Hutchinson Builders, a multi-million dollar contract to supply and install 700 modular accommodation units and support buildings at the Condabri and Reedy Creek gas fields near Miles and Wallumbilla.

The 700 units will be built in Hutchinson Builders’ Toowoomba modular production facility before being trucked to site, and will include mess halls, administration buildings, kitchens, laundry and other facilities to accommodate the needs of the personnel expected to reside there during the construction phase of the Project.

Australia Pacific LNG Senior Project Manager – Gathering and Development, Tony Papinczak said Australia Pacific LNG was pleased to award an Australian company with such an important contract.

The temporary accommodation units are a key component of the Project providing our construction workforce with a fully serviced home base on site,” said Mr Papinczak.

We’ve worked hard to ensure local businesses have every opportunity to participate and benefit from the Project where possible. Hutchinson Builders is now one of a growing number of home grown companies contributing to the delivery of this major project.”

Hutchinson Builders has extensive experience in delivering prefabricated accommodation facilities for major infrastructure projects of this scale.

As a result of the contract, Hutchinson Builders has created 120 new local jobs including management, trades, health and safety and environment, and recently expanded its existing 30,000 square metre Toowoomba modular production facility.

Hutchinson Builders’ Toowoomba Area Manager, Robert Weymouth thanked Australia Pacific LNG for the opportunity and said the company was honoured to be chosen as the major supplier to a project of such magnitude.

Hutchinson Builders has been established in Toowoomba for more than 15 years and we are excited about the 120 new local opportunities that have been created by this major contract win,” Mr Weymouth said.

We already have approximately 20 employees working onsite at Condabri and this number will continue to increase over the next month.

Toowoomba has a large, stable workforce, and the city is becoming a significant supplier of labour and contractors to the Surat Basin.”

Hutchinson Builders will deliver the complete building package for the Project including civil site works, reverse osmosis water treatment plants, a sewerage treatment plant and generator sets for power, and will install the modular accommodation on-site.

Construction on the modular accommodation commenced in December 2011, with the first delivery of rooms due to site in late February 2012, to be commissioned by early March.
