ABB Secures Yamal LNG Tanker Contract

ABB Secures Yamal LNG Tanker Contract

ABB said it has won an order to supply power and propulsion equipment for the first of 16 LNG tankers which will serve Russia’s Yamal LNG project. The contract has an additional option for the supply of equipment for another 15 vessels.

The scope of supply by ABB will include generators, switchboards, transformers, drives and propulsion units.

South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) has last year won a tender to build up to 16 LNG tankers for the Yamal LNG project.

Yamal LNG,  in which Russia’s Novatek holds 60 % interest, Total and CNPC 20 % each, will include a major integrated complex for the liquefaction of natural gas with a production capacity of 16.5 million tons per annum.

The three process trains that will make up this complex will have an annual production output of 5.5 million tons each, and are planned to be commissioned in 2016, 2017, and 2018.
