AEG bags Dogger Bank A & B contract with Aibel

Aibel has awarded AEG Power Solutions with a contract for the supply of its Protect 8 UPS and Protect RCS rectifiers to secure power on the HVDC offshore converter platforms for Dogger Bank A and Dogger Bank B.

AEG PS will deliver two Protect RCS 110TPRE1200 rectifiers, two Protect 8 inverters 60KVA, distribution cabinets and batteries on racks. The systems will secure power for the control process of the conversion operation (AC systems) and the switchgear (DC systems) on the two HVDC platforms, which will convert AC power generated by the wind turbines to DC for easier transportation to the shore.

Aibel was selected in October 2019 to deliver converter platforms for the 2.4 GW Dogger Bank A and Dogger Bank B, with an option for a third platform for the 1.2 GW Dogger Bank C project.

The contract for the first two platforms was signed recently as SSE Renewables and Equinor reached financial close for the first two phases of what will become the world’s largest offshore wind farm. Norwegian state-backed Export Credit Guarantee Agency GIEK is providing loan guarantees for contracts awarded to Aibel and OHT, which has been chosen to transport and install monopile foundations.

Dogger Bank A and B, located more than 130 kilometres off the Yorkshire coast, will feature 190 Haliade-X 13 MW turbines scheduled to deliver the first electricity in 2023.

Financial close for Dogger Bank C is expected to be made next year, and the entire 3.6 GW wind farm is slated for full commissioning in 2026.
