Aibel axes more jobs in Norway

Norwegian oil services company Aibel has once again decided to reduce its workforce in Norway citing current market environment.

After 100 layoffs in Stavanger reported in January 2016, Aibel is cutting 500 more jobs, half of those in Stavanger.

The company has around 4,500 employees worldwide, and eight offices in Norway. They are located in Hammerfest, Harstad, Stjørdal, Kristiansund, Bergen, Haugesund, Stavanger and Oslo.

According to the Norwegian newspaper Aftenbladet, Aibel notified its employees about this decision at a town hall meeting on Monday.

The newspaper said that 230-235 jobs would be cut in Stavanger, where the company has approximately 700 employees, but also in Aibel’s departments in Haugesund, Bergen, Kristiansund, Stjørdal and Harstad.

Offshore Energy Today reached out to Aibel seeking confirmation of these reports. In an emailed statement, the company’s spokesperson confirmed that 500 jobs would be cut due to a falling market.
