Aker BP gains drilling permit for Hyrokkin

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has granted Aker BP a drilling permit for well 25/4-11 in the North Sea.

The well 25/4-11, located in a prospect named Hyrokkin, will be drilled by the Maersk Interceptor drilling rig north of Alvheim in the North Sea.

The drilling program for well 25/4-11 relates to the drilling of a wildcat well in production license 677 where Aker BP is the operator with an ownership interest of 60 percent while Fortis Petroleum and MOL Norge hold a 30 and 10 percent interest, respectively.

The area in this license consists of the southern part of block 25/1, and the northern part of block 25/4 and the well itself will be drilled about six kilometers southwest of the 25/1-11R discovery named Storklakken.

To remind, the Norwegian oil company received consent on July 12 from the offshore watchdog, the Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA), to drill 25/4-11 and 25/4-12 wells in the North Sea using the Maersk Interceptor rig.

Production license 677 was awarded in APA 2012, and this well will be the first one to be drilled in the license.

As for the rig, the Maersk Interceptor jack-up was delivered by the Keppel Shipyard of Singapore in 2014, and is owned by Maersk and operated by Maersk Drilling Norge. The Maersk Interceptor was issued with an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) by the PSA in December 2014.
