Maersk Interceptor rig cleared to drill two wells for Aker BP

Norwegian oil company Aker BP has received consent from the offshore watchdog, the Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA), to use the Maersk Interceptor rig to drill two exploration wells in the North Sea.

The two wells are designated 25/4-11 and 25/4-12 and are located in a prospect named Hyrokkin, north of Alvheim in the North Sea, the safety authority informed on Wednesday.

Maersk Interceptor was delivered by the Keppel Shipyard of Singapore in 2014. The rig is owned by Maersk AS and operated by Maersk Drilling Norge. The Interceptor was issued with an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) by the PSA in December 2014.

The Hyrokkin prospect lies in production license (PL) 677. The operator of the license is Aker BP with a 60 percent interest while Fortis Petroleum and MOL Norge hold a 30 and 10 percent interest, respectively, as licensees.

Prospect was awarded on September 30, 2016, and expires on August 8, 2020.
