Aker BP gains permit for Norwegian Sea wildcat

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has granted Aker BP a drilling permit for a wildcat well offshore Norway.

The well 6507/5-8 will be drilled from the Deepsea Stavanger drilling rig, after concluding the drilling of development well 6406/3-H-2 H for Wintershall Norge in production license 475 BS.

The drilling program for well 6507/5-8 relates to the drilling of a wildcat well in production license 212 located in the Norwegian Sea.

Aker BP is the operator of the license with an ownership interest of 30 per cent. Other licensees are Statoil Petroleum (30 per cent), DEA Norge (25 per cent) and PGNiG Upstream Norway (15 per cent).

The area in the licence consists of part of block 6507/5. The well will be drilled about 2 kilometers west of the Aker BP-operated Skarv field and about 230 kilometers west of Brønnøysund.

Production license 212 was awarded on February 2, 1996 (15th licensing round on the Norwegian shelf). This is the eighth exploration well to be drilled in the license.
