The arrested Kamsarmax bulk carrier Maverick Guardian has been sold for a price of USD 14.95 million through an auction procedure held by Namibia high court on behalf of Credit Suisse.

According to data provided by VesselsValue, the 82,700 dwt ship, built in 2012, was purchased by an undisclosed Greek shipowner. The vessel was previously owned by Greece-based Efploia Shipping.

“After strong bidding from the outset, the hammer went down at USD 14.95 million plus Bunkers of USD 239,994,” Ariella Kuper, auctioneer and MD of Clear Asset, the appointed broker for the judicial auction by the high court of Namibia, said.

Kuper added that this represents “exceptional market value in what is considered challenging economic times, specifically for the bulk carrier and overall vessel sector.”

The vessel remained under arrest in Walvis Bay, where it anchored on August 24.
