ASC: Update on AWD Project

ASC: Update on AWD Project

2013 is nearing its end but there is not stopping the pace of the Production workforce at ASC South where the construction of the first Hobart Class air warfare destroyer (AWD) has entered the final assembly stage.

In the past month two more blocks have been lifted onto the ship structure, including the Mast. Block 603 was also placed on Friday, 13 December and Block 715 is due to go up early next week.

This leaves only the Dome to be added to the structure of the Hobart.

On the second vessel, construction is also continuing at pace with blasting completed on Block 111, Block 409 has commenced the first phase of outfitting (PO1) and the Block 709 (level 3 and level 4) rotation has been completed.

The hull of the first ship will be complete in early 2014 and will be followed by fit-out and testing of the ships’ systems before sea trials are undertaken.
