Australia: Arrow Awards Design Work for 1150km of Pipelines

Arrow Energy has awarded the preliminary engineering design of about 1150km of gas pipelines for its LNG project to resource services company WorleyParsons.

The scope of this Brisbane-based design, among the largest pipeline projects in Australia, includes Arrow’s two major pipelines that will transmit natural gas from its gas fields in the Bowen and Surat basins each more than 500km to Gladstone.

The pipeline design contract of more than $2 million comes after extensive community information sessions about Arrow’s Bowen Gas Pipeline, most recently in April, with licensing approval for the Surat Gas Pipeline granted in 2010.

Arrow CEO Andrew Faulkner said the pipeline design was an important milestone of Arrow’s LNG project to export liquefied natural gas (LNG) from its LNG plant on Curtis Island, off Gladstone.

“WorleyParsons was chosen for its understanding of our requirements and its availability to complete the work appropriately,” Mr Faulkner said.

“The pipeline design includes steel pipelines, isolation valve stations and a gas gathering hub in Gladstone.

“Work will be performed by WorleyParsons in their Brisbane office.”

Mr Faulkner said Arrow was in a strong position to deliver its LNG project.

“This pipeline design contract is a clear indication that Arrow is on track with its LNG project,” Mr Faulkner said.

“It will also enable Arrow to issue a construction tender for the gas pipelines early next year.

“We have continued momentum with the project and look forward to submitting a final investment decision on our LNG project to our shareholders around end 2013.”

Arrow is also completing an LNG front end engineering design and preparing an invitation to tender for the engineering procurement and construction contract for the LNG Plant.
