Australia: ConocoPhillips’ Browse Basin Drilling Scheduled for February 2012

Australia ConocoPhillips' Browse Basin Drilling Scheduled for February 2012

The “Transocean Legend” drilling rig is nearing completion of maintenance prior to the commencement of a firm drilling programme comprising five wells with an option for three additional wells in Karoon/ConocoPhillips Browse Basin permits, Karoon Gas Australia said in its Global Drilling Update.

The drilling campaign is now expected to stard in early-February 2012 when the “Transocean Legend” drilling rig is mobilised by the Karoon/ConocoPhillips Joint Venture to the Boreas-1 exploration well location in WA-315-P.

ConocoPhillips is the operator of the jointly held WA-314-P, WA-315-P and WA-398-P Browse Basin permits containing the previously announced Poseidon and Kronos gas discoveries.

The permits WA-314-P, WA-315-P and WA-398-P are located 460km north of Broome and straddle the northern and eastern flank of the Scott Reef-Buffon high trend. Water depths over most of the permits range between 470 and 540m. The Karoon permits, including the recently discovered (2009) Poseidon Field, are immediately on trend with the giant Scott Reef (Torosa)/Brecknock/Calliance gas fields (Plover Formation reservoirs), discovered from the 1970s and held by the Woodside Joint Venture
