Australia: Macmahon Awarded GLNG Civil Works Contract

Macmahon Holdings Limited announced today that it has been awarded the Gladstone LNG (GLNG) Civil Works subcontract in Queensland by Bechtel Australia Pty Ltd (as EPC contractor for the GLNG Plant Project). The parties will now work to finalise contract terms and conditions during the mobilisation phase.

The subcontract, which is in excess of $150 million, involves the site preparation for the liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant and includes clearing, bulk earthworks, pavements, roads and drainage for a 144 hectare greenfield site on the south west side of Curtis Island near Gladstone in Queensland.

The ground-breaking GLNG project (a joint venture between Santos and three of the world’s largest LNG companies, PETRONAS, Total and KOGAS) will process coal seam gas (CSG) into LNG.

Macmahon Chief Executive Officer Nick Bowen said the contract award demonstrates the Group’s ongoing success in the East Coast construction market.

“This is an excellent win for our Construction Business. This project award highlights the strength and diversity of the services Macmahon is able to deliver to its broad base of clients and sees the Company making a significant return to the rapidly growing LNG sector.”

The GLNG project is an important development for Queensland and the Australian resources sector, and Macmahon is pleased to be involved in this exciting project.”

Macmahon has continued to deliver many of Australia’s largest multi-disciplinary construction projects and the GLNG contract adds further depth to our construction order book,” Mr Bowen said.

Macmahon’s work on the project will start immediately and is scheduled for completion in late 2012.
