Stena Drilling Confirms Rig Incident

Stena Drilling Limited as Managers for Stena Drilling (Australia) Pty Limited confirms that an incident occurred on its Stena Clyde drilling unit today, currently operating in offshore Australia at approximately 00:20hrs (UK time).

The incident occurred on the drill floor of the drilling unit and resulted in 2 (two) fatalities one British national and one Australian. Drilling operations on the rig have been suspended and the well is safe.

The rig is located in Otway Basin, offshore Victoria and is on contract to Origin Energy.

The local emergency services have been mobilised to the incident and the onshore Stena emergency organisation has been mobilised and the relevant external authorities and next of kin have been notified.

Furthermore, Stena can confirm that an Investigation Team has been assembled and are being mobilised to the Stena Clyde. The Investigation Team will consisting of personnel from NOPSEMA (National Offshore Petroleum Safety Environmental Management Authority), Stena Drilling and Origin Energy Resources and it is hoped to establish the cause of the incident in due course.
