Bad weather hits PetroChina’s LNG imports

China’s National Petroleum Corporation informed on Saturday that its unit PetroChina halted LNG unloadings at the Tangshan terminal due to fog and strong winds which resulted in tighter gas supplies in Northern China and Beijing.

The region also experienced the lowest temperatures in 64 years, which, according to CNPC, led to a spike in gas consumption.

CNPC added that a number of emergency measures have been taken in order to ensure gas for domestic use which include cutting supplies to industrial users and reducing heating in public buildings.

Authorities also called for cooperation between China’s gas companies and for the optimization of  network operation as it works with PetroChina to continue LNG unloadings, although CNPC has not revealed a date it expects the operations to continue.
