Barents NaturGass said its LNG bunkering facility located at Polarbase, the supply base for the Barents Sea, in Hammerfest in northern Noway has started operations.

The facility has an LNG storage capacity of 1250 cubic meters and a pump capacity of 90 tons per hour and is equipped to handle vessels longer than 250 meters with a 13-meter draft, the company said in its statement.

Through its social media channels, the company said that the bunkering facility has been tested for different ships, from the small Statoil tugboats to the Coastal Guard and ENIĀ“s supply vessel, including the tanker Bit Viking with 1000 cubic meters of LNG storage on board.

In 2014, the first part of the plant at Polarbase was put into operation, and delivery capacity increased to approximately 200 cubic meters. The latest expansion allows for the bunkering of 1000 cubic meters in one operation.

Barents NaturGass’ also operates two LNG bunkering facilities further south along the Norwegian coast.
