Bayerngas picks up drilling permit for Norwegian wildcat well

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has granted Bayerngas Norge a drilling permit for a wildcat well offshore Norway.

The well 35/9-13 will be drilled from the Songa Enabler Cat D drilling rig, after completing the drilling of wildcat well 7317/9-1 for Statoil in production license 718, the Norwegian offshore regulator said on Thursday.

The drilling program for well 35/9-13 relates to the drilling of a wildcat well in production license 682 in the Norwegian section of the North Sea.

The Songa Enabler rig is under a long-term contract with Statoil. However, back in March 2017 Statoil and Bayerngas entered into an agreement regarding Operational Well Model to drill the Tethys Prospect in PL 682 by utilizing the Songa Enabler drilling unit.

Bayerngas Norge is the operator of the license with an ownership interest of 30 percent. The other licensees are Capricorn Norge (30 percent), Wellesley Petroleum (20 percent) and Petoro (20 percent).

The area in this license consists of the central and northwestern parts of block 35/9. The well will be drilled about ten kilometers northeast of the Gjøa field.

Production license 682 was awarded on February 8, 2013, in APA 2012. This is the first well to be drilled in the license.
