Block Island Wind Farm Getting Taller (Gallery)

Deepwater Wind has been installing top decks on foundations at its Block Island offshore wind farm since the beginning of this month.

According to the company’s social media pages, the first top deck was installed on 3 November and the third of the total five foundations got its top deck a week later. The work is being carried out by the self-elevating crane vessel Robert.

The foundation installation work was completed in late October, when all the piles were driven into the seabed. Each jacket foundation comprises four piles, which were hammered into the seabed after the jacket structures had been put into position.

Offshore works began on July 26, when the first jacket foundation was placed at the site, located some 4.8 km off the Block Island coast.

Cable installation and erecting five Alstom’s Haliade 6MW turbines are scheduled for 2016.
