OEG secures corrosion protection contract for Gennaker offshore wind farm

OEG has secured a contract to provide a subsea corrosion protection system for the 976.5 MW Gennaker offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea, developed by Skyborn Renewables.

The company will supply an Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP) system for the wind turbine foundations and is responsible for the engineering, procurement, manufacturing oversight, offshore logistics, installation, testing and commissioning of the system.  

OEG will work with cathodic protection specialist CORROSION on the project and use the ICCP-Subsea Assembly Method (SAM), a remotely operated installation system developed by the two companies.

Engineering and procurement activities are set to begin immediately, followed by manufacturing support, system integration and offshore installation in line with Gennaker’s construction schedule, according to OEG.

Gennaker will comprise 63 Siemens Gamesa’s 15.5 MW SG DD-236++ turbines installed on monopile foundations. Skyborn has awarded the monopile supply contract to EEW Special Pipe Construction, while Dajin Heavy Industry is supplying the transition pieces (TPs).

Offshore installation is scheduled to start in 2027, according to Seaway7, which was awarded the contract for the transportation and installation (T&I) of the 63 monopiles and TPs at the beginning of this year.

The offshore wind farm, located approximately 15 kilometers north of the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula, is planned to be commissioned in 2028.
