Blu LNG names industry veteran as president

Blu LNG said that James Edward Burns has been named as the company’s new President.

Burns will leverage his extensive industry experience and expertise of nearly 25 years in the energy sector to further position Blu for significant expansion, the company said in a statement.

As president, Burns will lead Blu’s day-to-day operations and strategic direction with a specific focus on maximizing the company’s recent innovations and working to expand its reach in domestic LNG use. While the trucking market will continue to be an emphasis, Blu will work to expand into the broader LNG market, including marine, mining, rail, oil and gas and other industrial applications.

Burns, who has worked in senior positions with Shell, Texaco and ARCO, most recently served as president of Fortress Energy Partners. Prior to that, Burns worked for Shell for 14 years in positions including general manager for LNG for transportation and global LNG finance advisor.

This announcement comes as the latest in a number of milestones for Blu during 2014. The company recently launched the Blu V2 Fuel Delivery System, a new LNG fuel tank that features an innovative one-piece design and costs approximately 40 percent less than current offerings; opened a new facility to serve LNG customers in the Pacific Northwest; announced several partnerships and agreements with companies including Ryder, Comdata and Interstate Distributors, and began operating innovative gas recapture and power generating systems at its Nampa, Idaho and Ogden, Utah facilities.
