BOEM Extends Virginia Offshore Wind Public Comments Deadline

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is giving the public an extra two weeks to comment on wind energy project offshore Virginia.

The Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy (DMME) plans to install and operate two 6 MW wind turbine generators as part of research activities plan called Virginia Offshore Wind Technology Advancement Project (VOWTAP).

The project, located 24 miles off the coast of Virginia Beach, also comprises cable to shore that will connect the wind turbines to the grid.

Dominion Virginia Power successfully bid on the lease for the construction of wind turbines.

BOEM pointed out that interested parties have until 16 January to have their say on the proposal.
