Bogue Inlet Dredging Underway (USA)

Bogue Inlet Dredging Underway

According to Frank Rush, the Emerald Isle Town Manager, the long awaited dredging project at the Bogue Inlet is underway.

The Merritt, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ sidecast dredger, has been in the inlet since August 1, and could be there as long as August 14.

There are some tight spots out in the inlet, and they’re doing some ‘tidying up’ so everything will be good for the fall fishing season,” said Rudi Rudolph, the Carteret County Shore Protection Manager.

According to carolinacoastonline.com, this dredging project is being funded by $500,000 in federal disaster relief money secured earlier this year by U.S. Congressman Walter B. Jones, the Republican who represents the state’s 3rd District, and Democrat Kay Hagan, one of the state’s two U.S. senators.
