Brazil FPSO explosion Five confirmed dead

Following a report that three workers aboard the FPSO Cidade de Sao Mateus were killed in an explosion yesterday, BW Offshore has revealed that the death toll has risen.

According to BW Offshore, which owns and operates the FPSO for Petrobras, offshore Brazil, five fatalities have been confirmed.

BW Offshore CEO Karl C. Arnet said in the update: “Four of our men are still missing. All others are accounted for and receiving medical care where needed, with two in critical condition and have been taken off the unit.

The FPSO is operating on the Camarupim and Camarupim Norte fields in Espirito Santo state of Brazil, approximately 120 km from the coast.

Arnet added: “This is a tragic day, and our primary focus now is on the crew and their families. We cannot rest until the last four of our men are found. We express our gratitude to Petrobras and the Brazillian authorities for the tireless efforts in this time and wish to thank our peers and partners for their support.”
