Brazil’s November LNG imports rise

Imports of liquefied natural gas into Brazil rose 24 percent from 213,042 tons in November 2014 to 264,780 tons in the current year. 

Argus reports that the increase in imports was mainly due to droughts in the northeastern region which pushed up the demand for thermoelectric generation.

Brazil imported 5.18 million tons in the first 11 months of 2015 which is a 40 percent rise compared to the same period the year before.

Petrobras’ LNG terminals saw mixed activity during November as imports through the Bahia terminal dropped from 186,650 tons in November 2014 to 126,993 tons in November of the current year.

Two other terminals saw an increase in imports as Guanabara terminal received 106,132 tons of liquefied natural gas during the month in review, compared to 26,302 tons in the same month in 2014. The Pecem terminal received 31,653 tons of LNG while no imports were recorded in the same month in 2014.
