The contract for the ground works will include preparatory works for the onshore substation at Sizewell. Breheny will also establish temporary compound areas, and will install the infrastructure for water, electricity and telecommunications. These works are scheduled to be completed in early 2015.

Bart Oberink, Galloper Wind Farm Project Director said, “These enabling works will be key to the construction of the Galloper substation. This is an important milestone for the project and follows the multi million pound contract awarded to ABP Port of Lowestoft earlier this year. Whilst we always go through a competitive and fair tender process, we actively encourage local businesses to take advantage of the opportunities available at Galloper, who are often well placed to win tenders.”

With the award of this contract to Breheny, Galloper Wind Farm Limited has now placed contracts with a range of UK and regionally based companies. Approximate spend to date amounts to £40 million. A substantial amount of this spend has been awarded to suppliers in the East of England region.

Galloper represents a multi-billion pound investment and once operational, could generate enough energy to power the equivalent domestic needs of around 330,000 average UK households.
