Bremen Mayor Christens OFFSHORE BHV 1 (Germany)

On December 16, 2011, Bremen Mayor and Senator of Finance, Karoline Linnert in front of 250 guests at BLG-car terminal christened OFFSHORE BHV 1 pontoon.

Soon, this vessel will be transporting up to 900 tonnes of heavy foundation structures for the Global Tech I wind farm.

The tripod structures will remain at the terminal until they are picked up by the installation vessels.

The use of terminal for this purpose has three reasons.

First, the limited space at the manufacturer in the fishing port, the installation vessels are too wide for the lock in the fishing port and there is no alternative for foundation transfer.

The offshore pontoon is the work of the new joint venture company, Offshore Logistics Bremerhaven GmbH, created by, BLG, RVV RönnerVermögensverwaltungsgesellschaft and MVG MöllerVerwaltungsgesellschaft.

Bremerhaven is already the largest location for offshore wind energy in Europe and the construction boom at sea is still to come.

The vessel is expected to be used in summer 2013. This can create 14,000 new jobs in Bremerhaven, according to a scientific study.

OFFSHORE BHV 1 home port is Bremerhaven and she sails under the German flag.
