Bulgaria Interested in Azerbaijani LNG

Bulgaria is interested in getting liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Azerbaijan, Bulgaria’s Economy, Energy and Tourism Minister Traicho Traikov told reporters in Baku on Thursday.

We are interested in a project associated with the delivery to Bulgaria of liquefied gas via the Black Sea. This project could also be for transporting not large amounts of gas. We see this project as interesting not only to Bulgaria, but also to other countries,” Traikov said. Bulgaria is prepared to act as a transit country for such shipments, as its own needs for gas are not great, he said.

Bulgarian authorities announced not long ago the country’s interest in importing one billion cubic meters of gas from Azerbaijan annually.

Azerbaijan has an LNG plant, but it produces only enough to meet its own needs. The possibility is being discussed of building another on Georgia’s Black Sea coast for producing LNG for export.
