Bulker Halts Traffic in Elbe River

A Capesize bulk carrier blocked vessel traffic in the Elbe River, Germany, after it suffered an engine damage in the morning hours of January 17, 2017, Waterways and Shipping Office Hamburg (Wasserstraßen- und Schifffahrtsamt) informed.

The 180,100 dwt Cape Leonidas restricted the traffic to and from Hamburg, according to local media.

Several tugs assisted the vessel, bringing it to deep waters to prevent grounding.

The 2010-build bulker is now moored at the Port of Hamburg, according to the ship’s AIS data.

The ship departed Narvik in Norway on January 12, 2017, and was en route to Hamburg, local media reported.

The 292-meter long Cape Leonidas is owned by Greek shipping company Alma Maritime, VesselsValue’s data shows.
