Origin Energy’s managing director and CEO Grant King said he is about to step down from the position and retire from the company with effect from October 19, 2016.

The company has named Frank Calabria, currently CEO of Origin’s energy market business as the new managing director and CEO, with the appointment taking effect immediately following Origin’s annual general meeting on October 19.

Origin’s chairman, Gordon Cairns noted that Grant’s retirement was expected. He added that the past year has been a transitional one for Origin with the focus on cost reduction and the completion of the APLNG project. With the completion of the LNG export project expected in the coming months, Cairns says the time is right for a change.

Calabria joined Origin as CFO in 2001, while in 2009 he was appointed CEO of the energy markets business.

He is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Australia and a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia.
