Canada: Harper Government to Visit Halifax Shipyard

Harper Government to Visit Halifax Shipyard

The Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Public Works and Government Services and Minister for Status of Women, and the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence, will visit Irving Shipbuilding’s Halifax Shipyard today to make an important announcement about new shipbuilding contract.

Irving Shipbuilding was selected in 2011 to build Canada’s future combat fleet under the National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy (NSPS). This visit will probably reveal a new contract to the Irving Shipbuilding, this time for the design of Arctic patrol vessels for the Canadian Navy.

At the moment, the construction of future patrol vessels is planned for 2015.
