China: CIC Changxing Shipyard Redelivers MV BOLD MAVERICK

CIC Changxing Shipyard successfully completed the repair works of M/V BOLD MAVERICK on April 6th 2012. The vessel is a cable layer, registered in ABS classification society. She came to the shipyard on February 10th 2012 for repairs and it was the first time for CIC-Shipyards to undertake the repair project for such a special vessel.

The owner required to convert the facility of the cargo hold which could offload the cables through the cable wheel. With focusing on the fabrication & repair of cables, the project had the distinguishing feature of offshore vessel, which was different from other routine repairs.

The yard paid high attention on this project and worked out the procedure to ensure the repair quality. After inspection, the main project was confirmed as follows:

1. Fabrication of cable tray basement, door frame, No.1&2 hatch coaming.
2. Copping & renewal of the underneath of main deck.
3. Reconstruction of hull ramps.
4. Welding cable tray basement.
5. Fabrication of ROV system basement & container platform.
6. Renewal of A/E cushion block.
7. Access holes on hull & other repair items on deck.
8. Renewal of 2 sets of D/E
9. New installation of offshore engineering equipment.

Since the structure of the subject vessel was quite complicated, it was very hard to get the D/E in and out the E/R. The workshop and the technical department prepared a special crane bracket to ensure the D/E enter the E/R without knocking.

During the repair, the workshop cooperated with the service suppliers and succeeded in the adjustment, which accumulated the experience for CIC-Shipyards on offshore engineering repair. Furthermore, the hull workshop organized seven teams for this project, and the total quality of steel renewal work was approx. 150 tons.
