China: Cosco Delivers Sevan Brasil Rig

China’s COSCO (Nantong) Shipyard  has delivered its new build Sevan Brasil rig to Norway’s Sevan Drilling ASA.

The delivery documents were recently signed by and COSCO Nantong and the buyer. Sevan Drilling, a drilling contractor specializing in the ultra-deepwater sector, reports that the rig has been loaded onto the heavylift vessel and is expected to leave China this week.

Sevan Brasil is contracted to Brazil’s oil company Petrobras on a six year contract for drilling operations offshore Brazil. The rig, of the specific cylindrical Sevan design, is expected to arrive in Brazil in the first half of April, 2012.
The Sevan Brasil rig measures 99 meters in LOA (length of all), 75 meters in breadth and 24.5 meters in depth.

In an e-mailed statement to Offshore Energy Today, Scott Kerr, Sevan Drilling’s CEO said:

“We are extremely pleased to accept our second rig, Sevan Brasil from Cosco shipyards. The rig has been delivered on time, within budget and we greatly appreciate the work of all our many suppliers and especially Cosco. The rig will now head to Brazil to start work for Petrobras and we will continue our work with Cosco on rigs 3 &4.”
