China: COSL Chooses Havyard PSV Design for Construction of Four Vessels

COSL Chooses Havyard PSV Design for Construction of Four Vessels

China Oilfield Services Limited (COSL) has chosen the Havyard 832 design for renewal of their supply vessel fleet, and has ordered Havyard designs for construction of four vessels.

The corporation, listed on the Hong Kong stock exchange, has the largest fleet of oil rigs and offshore vessels in China. COSL also owns 34 drill rigs, 2 accommodation rigs, 4 module rigs and 8 land-based drill rigs. Furthermore, the corporation has 75 supply vessels, 8 seismic vessels and 5 standby vessels.

Tough competition.

Havyard won this international tender in tough competition with only the best designers of offshore vessels, and Havyard was chosen following an in-depth technical and commercial evaluation process made by COSL.

Mao Liling, General Manager of Havyard China in Shanghai, is delighted with COSL choosing Havyard in such a demanding market.

“It really is a great honour for Havyard to be chosen as a supplier of ship designs to COSL`s 6000 HP fleet of supply vessels, and we are confident that the Havyard 832 design will meet their expectations. COSL is the leading supplier of services to the Chinese offshore oil industry and winning this design order for their fleet renewal programme, is a prestigious achievement,” says Mao Liling.

COSL operates in all areas within exploration and production of oil and gas. The corporation has four business areas; seismology, drill technology, well services and supply- and transport services. Besides their business activities in China, COSL also operates in North- and South America, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, South-East Asia and in Australia. Mao Liling points out that COSL is an experienced owner and operator of rigs and offshore supply vessels. They have very high demands towards the quality of the vessels they construct.

“COSL is a customer that will continue to expand and develop their fleet. It is therefore essential that they will be satisfied with the work Havyard shall do, so that we might also have an opportunity to take part in their future fleet renewals,” Mao adds.

Senior Vice President Market & Business Development Gunnar Larsen of Havyard Group, is very positive about Havyard delivering their successful Havyard 832 designs for these four supply vessels.

“It is very pleasing to once more receive confirmation that Havyard`s products are sought after and competitive in China. There have been several constructions of offshore vessels of a Havyard design both for Chinese and foreign shipowners in China. We see COSL`s decision in choosing Havyard designs as a confirmation that they have made good experiences with foreign operators. COSL is a customer everyone wishes to cooperate with and to deliver products to, and the market will notice that they are choosing Havyard now,” Larsen says.

Big in Asia.

The contract of these four designs is a further statement of a successful Havyard winter in Asia. Two weeks ago, the Havyard 843 design «Kan Tan 225» was named and delivered to Sinopec in China. In November, Havyard also sold designs for two vessels with an option for six further design deliveries for vessels to Basic Offshore in Singapore, potential constructions that will also take place in China.

“We believe that COSL`s new order may result in even more Chinese operators taking notice and wishing to use Havyard in the future,” says Gunnar Larsen.
