China:CNOOC’s New Offshore Drilling Platform to Come on Stream in 2011


A home-made 3,000-meter offshore oil drilling platform, owned by China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), is expected to come on-stream in 2011, a spokesman with the China Petroleum Pavilion at the ongoing Shanghai Expo said during the weekend.

According to the spokesman, the platform is the first of this kind made in China with world-class technological standard, which is expected to enhance the country’s capacity on deepwater oil and gas exploration and development.

The platform, at a total cost of 6 billion yuan, is able to undertake offshore operation at a maximum water depth of 3,059 meters and drilling length of 10,000 meters.
