Clipper Receives Its New Vessels from Japan

Clipper has taken delivery of the fourth Bari-Star design handysize vessel from Imabari Shipyard. The 38,000 dwt Clipper Bliss joined her sisters Clipper Bari-Star, Clipper Bettina and Clipper Belle in company’s significant handysize fleet of about 70 controlled vessels.

Clipper Bliss represents the next generation handysize type with impressive cargo capacity and eco fuel consumption. Her maiden voyage started in California loading rice in Sacramento and Stockton, destined to Mersin, Turkey.

The four Bari-Star vessels from Imabari are an important step in building up the fleet in company’s core segment bulk.

Clipper also took over the MV Clipper Excalibur, a 66,000 dwt Supramax bulk carrier built by Mitsui Engineering from Tamano Shipyard in Japan in late 2013.

Clipper Excalibur is state-of-the-art in terms of efficiency, economy and ecology. The vessel’s current voyage is taking her in ballast from India to Brazil – to load a Panamax stem of grain for discharge in China.

This is made possible by the vessel’s impressive cargo capacity and eco fuel consumption. In addition to an efficient eco speed, high capacity, and the economic long-distance ballast sailing possibility, the Supramax vessel has the benefit of being geared with four 30 mt cranes and grabs.

Clipper Excalibur will be joined by her sister vessel, the MV Clipper Excelsior, during the first quarter 2014.
