Clyde & Co advises on WAGL’s LNG project

Global law firm Clyde & Co advised West African Gas Limited (WAGL) in its development of an LNG import projects in Ghana’s port of Tema.

A unit of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and Sahara Energy Resource, WAGL intends to develop the first sub-Saharan Africa project, Clyde & Co said in a statement on Thursday.

In November 2015, WAGL signed a 5-year deal with Golar LNG to charter the 170,000 cbm newbuild FSRU Golar Tundra.

The project is aimed at solving Ghana’s current energy crisis and turning the country into a regional energy hub. It is expected to start operations in the second  quarter of 2016.

As the UK-based Clyde & Co said, cargoes will be shipped to the FSRU Golar Tundra moored in the port of Tema and further transported through pipelines to several power plants built recently or currently under construction.

The law firm advised WAGL on the charter deal with Golar LNG as well as the onshore elements of the project including the gas supply deal signed with the Government of Ghana and the EPC contracts for the construction of gas pipelines and related onshore project infrastructure.
