Golar LNG tasks Axess with work on FLNG pair bound for South American project

Project & Tenders

Norway-headquartered asset integrity management company Axess Group has picked up new assignments with Golar LNG, the Bermuda-headquartered owner and operator of liquefied natural gas (LNG) midstream infrastructure, for two floating LNG (FLNG) units destined to be deployed at Argentina’s LNG project on the South American country’s Atlantic coast.

Axess Group has been selected by Golar LNG to carry out maintenance, build and integrity management activities across two assets, MK II FLNG and Hilli FLNG, following competitive tender processes. These units, which will work at the Argentina LNG project, will be chartered to Southern Energy S.A. (SESA), a company formed to enable LNG exports from the South American country.

The Norwegian firm’s scope for the first FLNG includes maintenance build services, covering the development of an asset hierarchy and asset register, along with comprehensive maintenance and inspection programs, to establish a solid foundation for long-term asset integrity and operational reliability.

Andreas Sæter, VP – Europe at Axess Group, commented: “These awards reflect the strong confidence in Axess’ execution model and technical expertise in asset integrity for FLNG assets. They provide a solid platform for long-term value creation through high-quality AIM delivery and operational support.”

The company has been awarded integrity revalidation services for the second FLNG, supporting the asset’s redeployment through RBI revalidation, structural integrity reassessment, and inspection baseline consolidation.

Set for delivery in Q4 2027, the FLNG MK II, converted from the LNG carrier Fuji, is a next-generation FLNG unit with a liquefaction capacity of 3.5 million tonnes per year, while the FLNG Hilli is one of the world’s first converted floating LNG units and has been in commercial operation since 2018.

Axess will leverage its global footprint and full-service portfolio to deliver end-to-end, digitally-enabled asset integrity management (AIM) solutions across both assets. These awards are said to mark a strategic milestone for the European player.

The deals strengthen the firm’s position in the global FLNG segment, deepening its long-term relationship with Golar across the operating fleet, and establishing a foothold for execution and operational support activities in South America.

SESA is owned by a consortium of leading Argentinian gas producers, including Pan American Energy (30%), YPF (25%), Pampa Energia (20%), Harbour Energy (15%), and Golar (10%).

The combined capacity of the two units will be about 6 million tonnes per year (mtpa), once the FLNG Hilli Episeyo begins commercial operations in September 2027 and MK II follows suit in late 2028.
