Coral Reefs along Makran Coast in Danger (Iran)

The coral reefs and coral fish along the Makran Coast need protection from potential threats, thenews.com.pk reports.

Known as the rainforests of the sea, the coral reefs are threatened by limestone deposited by living organisms. A recent survey that was conducted in five sites revealed that trawling is also one of the major threats. The most significant sites where the survey was conducted are Cher Koh, Baladi Koh and Ganjabad.

Divers went to the depths from 13 to 31 meters several times with Buoyancy Compensation Devices.

About 15 species of hard and soft corals and about 25 species of coral associated fish species were recorded in the investigated coral reef ecosystem.
