Uljanik Kicks Off Construction of RO-PAX Ferry

On Slipway No.2 of Uljanik shipyard, on July 4, the keel was laid for the first of two contracted ferries (RO-PAX) designed for the transportation of passengers, trucks and other vehicles in the Caspian Sea region, the yard No. 501. The vessel is being built for “State Service of Maritime and River Transportation“ company from Turkmenistan.

Uljanik Kicks Off Construction of RO-PAX FerryThe vessel will be 155.8 m long, 17.5 m wide and will be driven by two four-stroke engines each having a power of 3,060 kW. The contract for the construction of yard 501 was signed in August 2012 while the launching is scheduled for the end of the year.

In addition to the leading people from Uljanik, Mr. Yakup Valijev, head of the Foreign Relations Department of the State Service of Marine and River Transportation of Turkmenistan, accompanied by his associates also attended the ceremony. On that occasion Valijev pointed out that he hopes for new projects and construction of vessels as Turkmenistan is constantly developing its fleet.
