Croatia: ULJANIK Shipyard Announces Delivery of ‘Barda’

Croatia - ULJANIK Shipyard Announces Delivery of 'Barda'

On the 14th of September 2012 ULJANIK Shipyard delivered yard 489, named “Barda”, to the Azerbaijan State Caspian Shipping Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan. This is the first of two contracted ships, of 5000 tonnes deadweight, for the transportation of wagons on the Caspian Sea.

The ship, of length 154.80m and width 17.5m, will be driven by two Uljanik-MAN B&W engines of type 5S26MC6 each having a power of 2000 kW at 250 RPM and which will achieve 14.5 knots sailing speed with the overall transport of 54 wagons.

The delivery documents were signed by Mr. Serđo Pajković, Marketing Director of Uljanik Shipyard and Mr. Shahid Orujov, assistent of the Director of the Azerbaijan State Caspian Shipping Company. After the signing of the documents, the ceremony of the raising of the flags was organized onboard “Barda” with which the delivery ceremony, attended by the shipowner’s representatives, ship’s crew and leading people of Uljanik, was concluded.

As a reminder, several ships constructed in Uljanik Shipyard for Azerbeijan State Caspian Shipping Company are sailing today, and Uljanik has constructed similar ships for the transportation of wagons six years ago, as well as in the mid 1980s when eight so-called “paromi” were constructed for the transportation of wagons.

The Contract for the construction of “Barda” was signed in May 2011 and the ship was launched into the sea on 10th May of this current year. Soon after the delivery of “Barda” Uljanik will deliver to the Azerbeijan Company a sister vessel named “Balaken”, the second ship of the series contracted for the transportation of wagons, which is currently in the final phase of outfitting before leaving for sea trials.
