DECC: Renewable electricity generation rises by 2.3% in 2016 Q1

UK Department of Energy & Climate Change (DECC) has released energy statistics report for the first quarter of 2016 with comparison to the same period a year earlier.

In the first quarter of 2016, total electricity generated was 3.4% lower than a year earlier.

Renewables’ share of electricity generation (hydro, wind and other renewables) was 25.1% in 2016 Q1, up 2.3% on the share in 2015 Q1, mostly reflecting increased capacity.

The total electricity generated from renewable energy sources was 23.2 TWh in 2016 Q1, an increase of 6.4% on the 21.8 TWh in 2015 Q1.

Renewable electricity capacity was 31.2 GW at the end of 2016 Q1, an 11.8% increase or 3.3 GW on a year earlier, and a 2.4% percent increase or 0.7 GW on the previous quarter.
